Daniel Danger, reporter for radio station 1LIVE, was the first, and now other important volunteers for the FISU World University Games are joining the team: on Thursday, 21 March 2024, the first 14 Long-Term Volunteers met at the headquarters of Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games gGmbH. They will support the organizing committee in the run-up to the event. Their enthusiasm and motivation for the event were clearly evident at this first meeting.

Last week, the Rhine-Ruhr region played host to a distinguished seven-member delegation from the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU), who journeyed to North Rhine-Westphalia to witness firsthand the preparations for the esteemed World University Games 2025. Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, the atmosphere among the delegation, featuring FISU President Leonz Eder, FISU Secretary General and CEO Eric Saintrond, FISU Vice President Dr. Verena Burk, and FISU Games Director Summer Jing Zhao, remained remarkably positive.
12 March 2024 – Bochum
Exciting developments are underway in Bochum: The renovation of the ‘Lohrheidestadion’ and its surroundings, designated as the venue for the athletics competitions at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, is proceeding smoothly. Soon, athletes will be competing for medals in this revamped sporting jewel. It will showcase the pinnacle of athletic prowess. Today, FISU President Leonz Eder presented the first official venue plaque to Bochum Mayor Thomas Eiskirch.

Behind the scenes, the organizing committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is working meticulously to ensure a successful sports festival in the summer of 2025 in the cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr. The organizers are therefore pleased to publish the first important general information about the FISU World University Games in a brochure.

The launch of the volunteer program for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games has sparked significant interest. Registration commenced last Thursday, 29 February, with a target of recruiting 12,000 volunteers for next summer's sports festival.

Become part of the team - An extraordinary event needs an extraordinary team! The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games are looking for 12,000 volunteers for the world's largest multi-sport event in 2025, which will take place in the cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr next summer. Volunteers gain experience for life, make international friends and receive exciting benefits for their commitment. Registration is now open.

Competitive sports can be challenging without additional support. The aim of the scholarship, which is awarded by Sportstiftung NRW, the Sports Foundation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is to help young athletes concentrate on their educational and sporting careers. 87 athletes were honoured at the 11th Captains' Day at ‘boot Düsseldorf’, the world's leading boat trade fair. Many of them are united by a common goal: to take part in the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games.

Since the tremendous historic victory of the German men’s national team at the recent World Cup in September 2023, basketball in Germany has been enjoying a great deal of attention. The organising committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is delighted that basketball will also play a major role in the world's largest multi-sport event in 2025. To meet the objectives of the coming months, a meeting with the Executive Committee of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) took place in Hagen last week.

The Flame Relay is an integral part of the FISU World University Games. The event in the Rhine-Ruhr region in 2025 will also feature a Flame Relay. At the end of November, the Organising Committee announced the start of the Torch Design Competition, which is opened to lecturers, researchers, and students from all disciplines at universities in Germany. But what did a torch look like at previous editions of the FISU World University Games?

The countdown is on, and the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games are getting closer day by day. The year 2023 was full of highlights - important milestones were reached on the path to a successful event, and many new tasks were added. During this time of reflection, let's look back together at 2023 and review the most memorable moments of the past 12 months.

We couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers! Events, especially in the sports field, rely heavily on the dedication and support of volunteers. In celebration of International Volunteers Day, the organising committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is excited to announce the official launch date for the Volunteer Program: 29 February 2024.

December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Since 1981, the United Nations has been taking measures to raise public awareness of the problems faced by people with disabilities and promote their dignity, rights and well-being. The organising committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is also sending a strong signal for inclusive participation and high-quality event experiences.
28 November 2023 – Berlin
On Monday, November 27, 2023, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI) hosted a reception at the Bundeshaus in Berlin to honor the medal winners of the Summer and Winter FISU World University Games. These athletes were recognized for their exceptional achievements in Lake Placid and Chengdu.
27 November 2023 – Düsseldorf
For the first time in the history of the FISU World University Games Summer, Para Sport will be included in the programme of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games. 3x3 wheelchair basketball will celebrate its premiere at the Games in summer 2025. Eight men's and eight women's teams will compete for the medals at the Arena-Sportpark in Düsseldorf.
24 November 2023 – München
The 118th General Assembly of the German University Sports Federation (adh) took place from 19-20 November. One of the main topics discussed was the upcoming Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, which will be held in Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, and Mülheim an der Ruhr in July 2025, under the patronage of the adh.
