The Flame Relay is a key event leading up to the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. The excitement began in Torino, Italy, in January 2025, when the Torch for the FISU Games Summer was lit during a FISU Games Winter for the first time. From its bright start in the birthplace of the FISU World University Games, the Flame Relay passes into Germany, where highlights include stops in the six Host Cities of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games - Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin.
FISU feels at home in Torino. FISU was founded in this magnificent city in 1949. Torino hosted the first ever Summer Universiade ten years later, in 1959.
The Torch of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games combines tradition with transformation. It symbolises the history and evolution of the Rhine-Ruhr region, reflecting its unique connection between the past and the future. As a powerful emblem, the Torch embodies the region’s cultural heritage while shining a light on its innovative aspirations. The design incorporates characteristic elements of the region, telling the story of its journey from its mining, manufacturing and engineering roots, to a post-industrial, vibrant cultural landscape.
The Torch will continue to travel through Germany under the motto 'Everybody is all-in’, stopping in the capital city, Berlin, and other well-known locations on its way to the Rhine-Ruhr region and its final home at the FISU Games. The Torch will be carried by exceptional personalities, including athletes, artists, and rising stars. Students, children, and visitors from universities across Germany will also be involved.
