Rhine-Ruhr 2025 takes part in EUSA Forum 2024

At the European Universities Games which are currently taking place in Hungary, Rhine-Ruhr 2025 was invited to speak at the EUSA (European University Sports Association) Forum 2024 held in Debrecen on Saturday 13 July.

The focus of the Forum was “Synergies in University Sport Development”. Jörg Förster, Chairman of the Board of the German University Sports Association (adh) and EUSA Vice President for University Sports Development, gave the opening speech in which he outlined the role of the EUSA, its potential and contributions to the current challenges and resulting development opportunities in the field of university sports.

Junior Manager Delegation Services Claudia Southwell presented the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 World University Games Summer concept and shared examples of collaboration with the Organising Committee of the European Universities Games 2024.

In May, Rhine-Ruhr 2025’s Delegation Services team attended the NUSA Coordination Meeting to experience first-hand how this event is run and gain important insights to assist the planning of the upcoming Spring Heads of Delegation Meeting in April 2025.

Southwell took part in the official Observer Programme

As part of the visit to the European University Games 2024, Claudia Southwell also participated in the official Observer Programme. The three-day programme consisted of workshops discussing the event planning process and tours of sport venues and athlete accommodation.

“Visiting the European Universities Games in Miskolc and Debrecen was a valuable opportunity for me to gather information and insights to share with all of my colleagues in the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Organising Committee” said Claudia Southwell. “Speaking at the EUSA Forum provided the perfect opportunity to share the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 concept with and personally connect with representatives from delegations we look forward to welcoming to Rhine-Ruhr 2025 next year.”

Jörg Förster summarised: 'The EUSA Games were an excellent opportunity to present the state of preparations for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games and to get the officials of the European partner delegations in the mood for 2025 and to motivate them to come to Germany with large delegations next year. We were able to have many conversations which made it clear that not only will many athletes be coming, but they will probably also be accompanied by many fans, friends and families.
