Volunteer program starts on 29 February 2024

We couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers! Events, especially in the sports field, rely heavily on the dedication and support of volunteers. In celebration of International Volunteers Day, the organising committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is excited to announce the official launch date for the Volunteer Program: 29 February 2024.

Volunteers are the unsung heroes behind the scenes, known for their commitment and willingness to take on new challenges. Their contributions play a significant role in creating unforgettable experiences for athletes and fans during sports events. Recent events like the European Championships 2022 in Munich, with 6,000 volunteers, and the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin, with 18,000 volunteers, were made fantastic thanks to their efforts. “Volunteering is simply amazing, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be so closely involved in these events. Once someone has volunteered, they’ll want to continue,” says Felix Abrahams, a 24-year-old volunteer from near Dortmund who participated in both Munich and Berlin.

A team of 12,000 volunteers is needed

Anticipating the need for a strong volunteer force, the FISU World University Games Summer 2025, taking place from July 16 to 27 in five cities (Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen, and Mülheim an der Ruhr) in the Rhine-Ruhr area, is expecting to recruit over 12,000 volunteers to ensure smooth operations. With 10,000 athletes and officials from 170 nations, the FISU World University Games will be the largest multisport event in the world in 2025.

Are you interested in being part of an extraordinary team and contributing to the organization of a major event? The official registration phase for the Volunteer Program will begin on 29 February 2024. However, you can pre-register now by clicking here and giving us your contact details so that you don't miss out when the time comes.

How can you become a volunteer?

Our Volunteer Program is open to all interested individuals. However, there are three points to consider:

  • You must be at least 18 years old by 1 June 2025.

  • You must be fluent in German or English.

  • You must be available for at least four event days.

As a volunteer, you will receive a uniform, thank-you gifts, and the opportunity to travel for free using public transportation. Additionally, you will gain unforgettable experiences, such as interacting closely with student-athletes, being part of the event organization, and meeting people from all over the world.

Experience of a lifetime for volunteers

“As members of the Volunteer Management Team, we have gained extensive experience by volunteering and working at various events. We understand the challenges and what it takes to organize and overcome them. With our experience, we aim to provide volunteers with a unique opportunity to be part of the world’s largest multisport event in 2025,” says Mirjam Scheffler, Senior Volunteer Manager at Rhine-Ruhr 2025.

On the occasion of International Volunteers Day 2023, we want to express our heartfelt THANK YOU. We extend our gratitude to all volunteers in various sectors of society for generously giving their time, energy, dedication, and their willingness to take on new challenges.
