Can I apply to several programmes at the same time?
If you qualify for several of them, you are more than welcome to apply to more than one of our programmes. Simply bear in mind you will be able to attend only one programme during the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games. We advise you to prepare your different motivations in the eventuality of an interview, for us to understand what motivated you to apply to several programmes.
I am a non-German applicant, what programme can I apply to?
As a non-German applicant, our two programmes are open to you.
For non-EU citizens, you are welcome to join one of these two programmes:
FISU-AIPS Young Reporters (please send your application directly to FISU via email at youngreporters@fisu.net)
Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Young Photographers presented by Nikon (please fill out the application form here)
For candidates from the EU, you can already apply to the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Young Photographers presented by Nikon Programme. If you want to apply as a reporter, a separate programme called 'U-Media Ambassadors' will recruit EU students with the support of the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme in the Spring of 2025. Just be patient until then!
All selected candidates – German and foreign ones - will benefit from free travel and on-location accommodation, added to the support of expert mentors during the FISU Games.
Do I need to have experience in the media to apply?
Past experience with media and/or journalistic work is indeed appreciated but is not a mandatory requirement at all! The ambition of this programme is to train young talents by giving them a wonderful opportunity to experience a real international event while working in the field.
We know some applicants are very young and have not had the chance to get a significant professional experience yet. This is why we are looking first and foremost for motivated candidates, students pursuing an educational career in media (e.g., journalism, photography, communication) or recent graduates in one of the mentioned fields.
We strongly recommend you to not censor yourself regarding this programme. We guarantee every application will be thoroughly reviewed, and all candidates will be given a fair shot at participating to the programme of their choice.
What will be the YSMT role during the FISU Games?
During the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, Young Sports Media Talents will all work alongside established media professionals, covering the sports with their voice recorders, microphones or cameras, and gaining invaluable insights into how a major multi-sport event is projected to the world.
They will all receive training from mentors and be expected to cover the FISU Games as official media representatives. The specific tasks asked of our YSMT will be as follows:
The FISU-AIPS Young Reporters (YR) will report every day on one of the 18 sports happening during the RR 2025 FISU Games. They will alternatively be asked to:
Produce news articles for the official Media Information System and the official Rhine-Ruhr 2025 website (national participants) or the FISU website (international participants)
Conduct TV interviews in the mixed zone for the Host Broadcaster (international participants)
Produce social media content for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 and/or the FISU account
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Young Photographers (YP) will be covering the 2025 FISU Games every day from competition venues, as close as it can get to the athletes! Thanks to our Official Supporter Partner Nikon, the Young Photographers will be provided with top-quality equipment and accessories. After an intense training made of a series of informative online workshops and onsite briefings, the YP will be alternatively asked to capture and edit photos for the Media Information System. A special prize will even be awarded to the three YP adjudged to have captured the best FISU Games images.
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Young Commentators (YC) will also be working every day from competition venues, at the heart of the action! Our six YC will have the essential role to provide audio-descriptive commentary of competitions for the visually-impaired spectators at venues, alongside experienced professionals. As cohesion and inclusiveness are at the heart of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games values, the YC mission will be fundamental in the running of the FISU Games.
Are reference letters mandatory for my application?
The reference letter (or recommendation letters) is a key document in the submission of all applications. It highlights the candidate’s professional ability as well as their human qualities, and displays the trust practised professionals put in them.
Candidates can ask a professional reference from a past or present employer, or an academic one from a teacher. Reference letters do not specifically have to come from media professionals to be valid.
When will I know if my application has been accepted for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games?
The application process for the Young Sports Media Talents will close on 28 February 2025. After review of all applications, the selection of the 28 candidates will be made throughout the month of March 2025. All applicants will be informed about the results via email.
