Rhine-Ruhr 2025 looks for 12,000 volunteers

Become part of the team - An extraordinary event needs an extraordinary team! The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games are looking for 12,000 volunteers for the world's largest multi-sport event in 2025, which will take place in the cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr next summer. Volunteers gain experience for life, make international friends and receive exciting benefits for their commitment. Registration is now open.

Under the motto ‘NO GAMES WITHOUT U!’, a promotional campaign is now drawing attention to the registration opportunity. 12,000 volunteers are needed for the sports festival, at which around 10,000 athletes and officials from up to 170 nations are expected. What are the requirements? Very simple! Anyone who is at least 18 years old on 1 June 2025, speaks fluent German or English and is available on at least four event days in summer 2025 can apply.

A Volunteer Program with around 50 functional areas

Those interested in the volunteer program have many opportunities at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. There are around 50 different areas of work in total. These are as diverse as the sports festival itself: in the ‘Sports’ functional area, volunteers gain exciting insights into one of the many sports; in ‘Communication’, they work with media representatives from all over the world; and in ‘Culture & Side Events’, volunteers help to deliver the cultural and non-sporting entertainment program.

Mirjam Scheffler @Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games

Mirjam Scheffler, Senior Manager Volunteers at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, says volunteers will shape the image of the respective host cities during the event and act as contact persons at the sports venues: “As members of the volunteer team, we have already gained a lot of experience as volunteers at various events. We know what is important in the organization and what challenges need to be overcome. With our expertise, we want to enable the volunteers to have a memorable experience and get a glimpse into the world’s biggest multi-sport event in 2025.”

Numerous benefits for volunteers

The volunteers will be a fundamental factor in making the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games a colorful, upbeat and international festival. In return, they will each receive a behind-the-scenes view of a huge multi-sport event, free access to competition, a ticket for local public transport, a volunteer outfit, and unforgettable experiences and adventures with people from all over the world.

Felix Abrahams @Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games / Felix Abrahams

Felix Abrahams, a 24-year-old from Dortmund, loved volunteering at the European Championships in Munich 2022 so much, he signed up again, at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin: "As a volunteer, I feel part of something really big. I learn important things for life and experience the sporting events on-site. The most important thing about volunteering is that you enjoy it. Choose an area of work that interests you and that you enjoy. Don't see it as work but do it because you want to. Then you’ll have a wonderful time that you’ll never forget."

Registration is possible until 15 September 2024 at www.rhineruhr2025.com/volunteer
