Strive for participation and inclusion

December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Since 1981, the United Nations has been taking measures to raise public awareness of the problems faced by people with disabilities and promote their dignity, rights and well-being. The organising committee of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games is also sending a strong signal for inclusive participation and high-quality event experiences.

The aim is to involve various underrepresented groups and people with disabilities as well as to promote inclusion and diversity within grassroots sports and university sports organizations. At the FISU World University Games 2025, for example, for the first time there will be Para Sport in the form of 3x3 wheelchair basketball. Making the venues accessible and actively removing barriers is also an absolute priority. Inclusion will also be taken into account when planning the volunteer program.

To help meet the inclusion requirements for the sporting event, Louis Kleemeyer joined the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 team in September 2023 as Event Inclusion Manager. He is available to answer questions around this topic and support job applications from people with disabilities. Louis has had a learning disability since birth. The 22-year-old is the founder and managing director of Unique United, a special online platform, which is made by people with disabilities for people with disabilities.

In addition to his role as Event Inclusion Manager at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, he is also involved as a mentor at Inklupreneur to promote an inclusive working environment. He already gained experience at major sporting events as part of the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin. There, too, he advocated for inclusion and equal opportunities.
