FISU Winter Games begin in Torino
The 32nd FISU World University Games Winter begin in Torino, Italy, on Monday. From 13 to 23 January, more than 2,000 student-athletes and officials from 54 countries will compete for medals in 13 different sports across the Piedmont region in the northeast of the country. As well as sporting competition at the highest international level, intercultural communication and student exchange are at the heart of the event.
Which sports are featuring at the Torino 2025 FISU Games?
The sports on show are biathlon, curling, ice hockey, figure skating, freestyle skiing, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, short track, ski mountaineering, ski orienteering, snowboarding, para alpine skiing, and para cross-country skiing.
Where will the Games be held?
In addition to the regional capital of Torino, where short track, figure skating, curling and ice hockey will be held, competitions will be held in Pinerolo, Torre Pellice, Pragelato, Bardonecchia, and Sestriere.
Which countries are participating?
Student-athletes have come from all over the world. A total of 54 nations are represented, from Argentina to New Zealand, and from the Philippines to the USA. Most of the competing countries, however, are from Europe.
How big is the German delegation?
The German national student team, which is being sent by the German University Sports Federation (adh), consists of almost 60 student-athletes, who will compete in 11 of the 13 sports. The largest team is made up of Alpine skiers, with ten athletes nominated. German student-athletes will also compete in biathlon, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, para-alpine skiing, para-cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, ski orienteering, cross-country skiing and snowboarding.
