Over 100 athletes from NRW at the Olympics
Team Sportland.NRW once again makes up the largest part of the German Olympic team in 2024, underlining its excellent reputation. TEAM D includes 470 athletes, more than 100 of whom come from the sporting state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Minister-President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wüst: ‘We are proud that North Rhine-Westphalia is once again making up the largest part of the German Olympic team. This underlines our excellent reputation as the number one sports state. The anticipation of the Olympic Games is not only great among the athletes: many family members and sports fans from North Rhine-Westphalia will be supporting the team on site in neighbouring France.’
Paris is organising the Olympic Games for the third time after 1900 and 1924. After no spectators were able to attend the last Olympic Games due to the coronavirus pandemic, the competitions will once again be held in front of packed stands. The proximity of the French capital to North Rhine-Westphalia will attract a large fan base to the Olympic Games almost on the doorstep.
‘I wish Team Sportland.NRW and, of course, Team Germany as a whole every success in the upcoming competitions, a great time and unforgettable moments in the company of top international athletes,’ emphasised the Minister-President.
Support for high-performance sport in North Rhine-Westphalia
The athletes of Team Sportland.NRW were able to prepare for their Olympic participation at the three Olympic Training Centres in North Rhine-Westphalia and the numerous Federal Training Centres in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is because the fostering of competitive sport has a high priority in North Rhine-Westphalia: together with the North Rhine-Westphalia State Sports Association, the NRW Sports Foundation and the Olympic Training Centres, the course is set early on for the targeted support of aspiring young athletes: Starting with the selection and development of potential talents, through the compatibility of competitive sport with school, studies and work, to the integration of science into the training process.
