"See the Unseen" – Discover the strongest magnet in the Ruhr area (The Science Laboratory: Erwin L. Hahn Institute for MRI) 

Take a rare look behind the scenes of cutting-edge medical imaging. Normally closed to the public, the former control center of the coking plant Zollverein—now home to one of Germany’s most advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) laboratories—opens its doors for a unique experience. What was once the control center of one of the world's biggest industrial coal processing units is now a center for groundbreaking MRI research. Join MRI scientists Dr. Markus May and Dr. Oliver Kraff for an exclusive tour (in English) of the 7 Tesla MRI facility at the UNESCO World Heritage site Zollverein. Explore how ultra-high field MRI reveals the human body in detail—insights usually reserved for scientists and researchers.  

Beer Tasting: Urban Recreation with Flavor

Germany, and the Rhine-Ruhr area in particular, is not only a land of sport but also of beer. But with so many different beer styles to choose from, how am I supposed to make my choice? What is a pilsner and how does it differ from an export, why is black beer always black, but Weissbier sometimes too? Questions that move the world - here you get the answers! An experienced master brewer will give you some initial guidance in a relaxed atmosphere: “Stadtranderholung” is the motto! In the past and today, the term “Stadtranderholung” (urban recreation) refers to inexpensive vacation care for children close to the city. This special beer tasting is more about giving beers from the immediate vicinity, from the outskirts of the city so to speak, a chance. Because we can't seriously philosophize about climate change and global warming and then put beers that have been transported 500 kilometers in the fridge! So: think globally - drink locally!

Many patients cannot survive without a life-saving stem cell donation and the search for a suitable donor is often a race against time.  

Some patients find their genetic twin. But many other patients are still waiting for a suitable stem cell donor and the chance to continue living. The faster a ‘match’ is found, the greater the chances of survival for patients. Register here as a potential stem cell donor.
