Adopt a Delegation
Frequently Asked Questions
Are you or your school interested in joining the Adopt a Delegation Programme, but need more clarity on certain topics? If your query is not answered here, the Organising Committee will be happy to hear from you at: education@rhineruhr2025.com
What is my task as a teacher?
You are our contact person for the entire project period (tandems are possible).
You officially register your school, class, working group or holiday supervision for the project.
You design the project idea for your school before or during the kick-off event.
You will take part in the joint kick-off event, probably at the end of January 2025, and a maximum of two digital exchange dates during the project period (April-July 2025).
You will implement your project idea together with your colleagues and students.
Optionally, the project can be presented at the event in summer 2025.
You are cordially invited to attend the event.
Which age group is best suited to take part?
Participation is possible for all age groups.
The project content can be individually tailored to the relevant age group.
The opportunities for participation in the official delegation programme are also organised according to age.
For example, while an upper school class can enquire about the athletes' training management during a Zoom call, younger classes can record a joint greeting video with self-designed flags that will be sent to the delegations.
There are no limits to your creativity.
How much time does participation involve?
You decide for yourself how much time you can and want to invest.
Different levels of participation allow for low-threshold involvement. If you catch as much Rhine-Ruhr fire as we do and your school can make it possible for you to participate, your project realisation can also become more extensive.
Small project: Integration of a country into regular lessons
Medium project: Implementation outside of regular lessons (e.g. event visit, artistic realisation)
Large project: joint realisation of a day of action for several classes, if possible with a visit from the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Ambassadors or the mascot ‘Wanda’
How is the allocation of countries decided?
Official registration ends on 15 January 2025.
The allocation will then take place and will be announced by 24 January 2025.
When registering, a 1st and 2nd preference will be requested, which we will of course endeavour to take into account.
In particular, if there are school partnerships, a special orientation of the school type (bilingualism) or similar, we will endeavour to find a meaningful connection and can already fix this during pre-registration.
If a regular registration is made, the availability of delegations for the desired DCP (Delegation Contact Points) will be checked after the preference.
We are sure that everyone will find a suitable match.
What do we actually gain from taking part?
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games are one of the world's biggest multi-sport events in 2025 and are taking place right on our doorstep.
The aim of our Pre-Games activations is to make physical activity fun but also to familiarise participants with the prospect of competitive sport. During the event, initial contacts can be made with universities and colleges in the region and new talents and passions can be discovered in a variety of workshops and cultural programmes.
We want to enable you and your students to not only experience the games up close and get carried away by top-class sport and our festival, but also to be a part of the event in advance.
We enable you to have exclusive personal contact with the participating world-class athletes and their teams, who will give you an insight into the preparation for their competitions and their everyday training.
For some participants, there will be the opportunity to take part in official events such as the Head of Delegation Spring Meeting in April, the Rhine-Ruhr Flame Relay in May and the official welcoming ceremonies at the start of the summer holidays.
What could our project look like?
The FISU World University Games combine sport, science and culture. The event is loud, colourful and diverse.
The topics of diversity, sustainability, inclusion and integration are particularly important to us.
Your projects are part of this broad spectrum and there are no limits to creativity.
Examples (You can find a concrete project outline here.)
Typical national music in music lessons or school orchestra/choir
National sport (RR25) in PE lessons
International week in the school canteen or cookery club
Learning the national language
Geographical or historical specialities in geography or history lessons
Political debate on various topics in politics lessons or debating club
Designing fan posters in art or geography lessons
How can we present our projects during the event?
The Organising Committee has published a ‘Call for Participation’. Here, local organisations, associations, artists, music acts and schools can apply to present themselves and their projects before or during Games-Time.
You can find all information about the call and the application under this link.
We are looking forward to a colourful, diverse programme in which your Adopt a Delegation project will also be presented to the region.
It is a great opportunity for the students to show their families and friends the results of the project.
