Outstanding Thesis Concept Award

Rhine-Ruhr 2025 is proud to present the 'Outstanding Thesis Concept Award', recognizing exceptional scientific concepts (exposés) for Bachelor’s or Master’s theses. Open to students enrolled at German universities, the competition requires the thesis to be supervised by an authorized examiner, with submissions accepted in German or English. To qualify, the exposé must demonstrate a strong thematic connection to major sporting events, multi-sport events, the FISU World University Games (formerly 'Universiade'), university sports, Rhine-Ruhr 2025, FISU, or adh. Additionally, the work may explore perspectives aligned with one or more of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Applications must be submitted by 31 March 2025. Submission Requirements

Open to students enrolled at German universities, the competition requires the thesis to be supervised by an authorized examiner. Applications must be submitted in electronic form as a PDF (max. 10MB).

Assessment Criteria

  • Exclusion criteria: completeness of the documents

  • Quality of the synopsis and feasibility of the concept idea

  • Realistic schedule

  • Length: Maximum 1,500 words

  • Thematic reference: Major sporting events, multi-sport events, FISU World University Games (formerly 'Universiade'), university sports, Rhine-Ruhr 2025, FISU or adh

  • Individual duration of study and special life situation can be taken into account in the case of equally good work

  • Academic quality

  • Creativity (research question, methodology, perspective)

  • Perspective added value for the object of research (further development of the field)

  • Perspectives that can be applied (e.g. for research or practice)

Check List

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • A digital copy of the concept in German or English (max. 1,500 words)

    • Summary (1/2 page)

    • Introduction incl. reference to the state of research and location of the work

    • Methodological approach (for empirical work, references to data collection and evaluation)

    • Anticipated results

    • Anticipated discussion points

  • Short Curriculum Vitae (max. one page)

  • Certificate of enrolment

  • Signed Declaration of Consent under Data Protection Law (Data Protection Information)
