Horst-Korber-Sportzentrum
Glockenturmstraße 3-5, 14053 Berlin

With a wood panelled interior and translucent roof, the Horst-Korber-Sportzentrum is "still one of the most beautiful sports halls in Berlin", according to Friedhard Teuffel, the director of the Berlin State Sports Association (LSB). Named after one of his predecessors and opened in 1990, the hall lies in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, adjacent to the 1936 Berlin Olympics site. Like its surroundings, the centre has a storied history: around 35,000 refugees were housed here before a 3.9 million EUR renovation in 2017-18 added hydraulically movable stands. Returned to use as a sporting venue, the hall hosted the European Indoor Hockey Championships in 2020 and is now a regular training base for the BR Volleys and the Spreefüxxen women’s handball team. For the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, the centre will host volleyball.
