Wedged between Lake Barbara and Lake Berta in Sportpark Duisburg, the Regattabahn is a jewel-in-the-crown competition course for rowing. At 2,180 metres long and 120 metres wide, the former quarry has already staged numerous big meets, including the 1989 Universiade and the Canoe Sprint World Championships, which it hosted as recently as 2023. Only weeks after the curtain came down on that event, the scaffolding went up and the bulldozers moved in as part of a EUR 30 million redevelopment to ensure the Regattabahn remains one of the world’s most popular locations for rowing.
