Flame, Team Spirit and Excitement – Duisburg Embraces the FISU Games

On 28 May 2025, Duisburg became the stage for a powerful highlight of the Flame Relay for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games! The day began at Steinbart-Gymnasium Duisburg.

Students from Steinbart Gymnasium and three other Duisburg partner sports schools took over the torch, filled with energy and enthusiasm. After a lively warm-up, they carried the flame to the town hall for a festive welcome and the ceremonial handover of the Host City plaque – a moment full of anticipation for the FISU Games ahead.

The relay continued along the Volunteer Mile to the central station, where engaged citizens and university torchbearers passed on the flame. A true visual highlight awaited at the iconic "Duisburg ist echt" sign, specially redesigned for this occasion.

On 29 May, the flame light up another major moment: the German University Athletics Championships – showcasing team spirit and excellence in university sport.

Duisburg shines bright – full of passion, energy, and ready for Rhine-Ruhr 2025!

"It is fantastic to see how dedicated the people of Duisburg have been to help to shape today. We are seven weeks away from the Games – despite some challenges, we look back on how much we have already accomplished. With such dedicated host cities like Duisburg, strong partners, and many outstanding individuals in the region, I am convinced: these will be fantastic games." - Niklas Börger
