Mülheim in Motion – The Torch Brings the Spirit of the Games

On 16 May, Mülheim an der Ruhr came alive as the torch of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games lit up the city and spread the spirit of the upcoming FISU Games.

The day began with a special moment at the Luisenschule, where pupils welcomed the torch with excitement and joined Wanda for an energising warm-up. From there, the route set off – accompanied by school classes and primary pupils – winding its way towards the city centre. A festive reception awaited, including interviews with the Mayor and representatives of Rhine-Ruhr 2025, followed by the official and symbolic handover of the Host City plaque.

On the 'Ehrenamtsmeile', dedicated volunteers and members of local clubs took over, proudly carrying the torch to the historic Broich Castle. There, students from Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences continued the relay, powering the flame along the high-speed RS1 cycle route to campus – a dynamic finale to a day full of energy, community, and anticipation.
