How can I travel between cities?
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games seek to offer all the participants the opportunity to discover the industrial area of North Rhine-Westphalia and get a grasp of various sports taking place in our competition venues. That is why we offer a free public transport ticket for the whole period of the competition.
I was assigned a volunteer role in Berlin. Can I travel for free to the cities in NRW?
You can find affordable train tickets on bahn.de or flixtrain.de. Don’t forget that currently you can also buy a public transport ticket that allows you to travel in Germany with buses, trams, subways, and regional trains.
Why is Düsseldorf not on the list of host cities anymore?
No competition will be held in Düsseldorf anymore, but we have the capital city of Berlin in. If you would have liked to volunteer in Düsseldorf, but you have been offered a position in another city in North Rhine-Westphalia, we recommend accepting it and visiting Düsseldorf in your spare-time.
What does Gym Accommodation mean?
Our gym accommodations offer a simple and communal overnight stay directly on site. You’ll sleep in a gym that will be transformed into a large indoor camping area for the duration of the event. All you need is a sleeping mat or mattress and a sleeping bag and you’re ready to go. The schools’ sanitary facilities are available to you free of charge.
Is there any female only gym accommodation?
In Duisburg, there will be a women-only accommodation at the Steinbart-Gymnasium. Only women will be able to book a place there. You can find more information about this on the Host Cities website. However, in all other halls we can also provide women-only areas separated by dividing walls.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS FOR GYM ACCOMMODATION?
You can sleep in the gym accommodation free of charge. You are only responsible to bring your own gear and take care for your own meals outside of your shift.
Who can book a place in gym accommodation?
Anyone with a confirmed role at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 World University Games can book a space in one of our gym accommodations.
How can I book a place in gym accommodation?
You can easily book your sport in the gym accommodation via the link on our booking page. Just click the button on the right side of the website.
Can I book for more people?
You can only make one booking at a time. If your friends are also volunteers, you can send them the link to the gym accommodation booking platform.
I asked for a change in my host city. Can I modify my booking?
If your volunteering location has changed since registering for gym accommodation, please contact us so we can help direct you to the respective gym accommodation options in the location you have been allocated to.
WHO CAN STAY IN A GYM ACCOMMODATION?
Only volunteers who have booked a spot in the respective gym accommodation are allowed to stay there. Even if you have booked a gym accommodation in another city, you will only be able to enter the gym you have personally booked.
Can I bring friends/family members in?
Our gym accommodation facilities are only reserved for accredited volunteers who register on the booking platform. You can meet with your friends and family members who are not volunteers or have not booked a place in a gym accommodation outside, when your shifts are over.
Do I need to bring my own equipment and toiletries?
Yes, for your stay in the gym accommodation, you‘ll need to bring your own mattress, sleeping bag, and personal hygiene items such as shampoo, towels etc. We also recommend to bring a sleep mask, as we cannot guarantee that all the gym windows can be fully darkened.
I am travelling by car. Are there parking options for gym accommodation?
Please check the page of your host city. There you can find all the necessary information regarding our gym accommodation, including the parking availability.
Where can I park my Camper Van?

Is there free transportation between airports/train stations and gym accommodation?
There is no transportation service from nearby airports to the gym accommodation. However, once you receive your accreditation remember that you can travel freely in the Rhine-Ruhr area. You can also find information regarding the distances by public transport from gym accommodation to the competition venues in our host cities.
Do I get a discount code for hotels as a volunteer?
We currently do not have a collaboration with any hotel or hostel. All the recommendations are based on research and prior experiences and are meant to guide you in finding the right accommodation for you. Therefore, we cannot provide any discount code.
