Stage 14: Bochum

8 May 2025

On 8 May, the regional leg of the torch relay began in Bochum, marking a festive milestone on the road to the Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games 2025. Pupils from Bochum’s Elite Schools of Sport received the torch and accompanied it through the city, starting from their school and heading with great enthusiasm to Bochum’s town hall. There, in a symbolic ceremony, the Host City plaque was unveiled, celebrating Bochum’s role in the upcoming Games.

STOP 1

The torch arrives with Wanda and Rising Star Frieda Echterhoff, who lead a warm-up session before the relay begins with participating schoolchildren.

The Mayor warmly welcomes guests at an official reception, highlighted by the symbolic handover of the Host City badge.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY GEORG AGRICOLA

A sporting highlight awaits the torch as it is carried across the campus during a vibrant sports festival, accompanied by students and guests.

Stop 4

Ruhr-Universität Bochum

The torch arrives on campus and is carried by torchbearers across the grounds, concluding at the cafeteria "Rote Bete."

Stop 5

Ruhr-Universität Bochum

A lively get-together featuring music, food and drinks provided by AKAFÖ, along with entertainment, games, and activities hosted by the promo team and sports department.

An energetic start of regional route

The regional route of our Flame Relay began in Bochum on 8 May. Pupils from Bochum's elite sports schools received the torch and accompanied it on its journey through the city. From the schoolyard, the torch made its way to Bochum's town hall with great enthusiasm. The Host City plaque was also unveiled in this festive setting – a symbolic moment marking Bochum’s role in the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games.

The route continued along the Volunteer Mile, where committed citizens, students, and well-known personalities carried the torch, highlighting the importance of volunteering in sport and society.

A sporting highlight awaited the torch at the Georg Agricola University of Applied Sciences. It was carried across the campus as part of a lively sports festival, accompanied by students and guests who celebrated the anticipation of the FISU Games together.

The torch then took a special route – the U35 university line transported it to Ruhr University Bochum. There, the first stage of the regional route concluded with an atmospheric get-together – a perfect end to a day full of enthusiasm, community spirit, and sporting inspiration.
